Milestones of our History

Since 1974, we have been delivering furniture and large electrical appliances under the name Hermes Einrichtungs Service (HES) millions of times. With around fünf million deliveries, we are the market leader in 2-man-delivery in Germany. Follow here the most important milestones of our development from the beginning until today.

1958: OTTO sells its first pieces of furniture

In 1958, OTTO Versand sold its first pieces of furniture. Sänger Speditionsgesellschaft from Löhne in North Rhine-Westphalia was chosen as the logistics partner for deliveries, and from then on, they delivered furniture and large appliances to customers of the present-day Otto Group millions of times.

1974: Foundation of the Hermes Group

Shortly after the founding of “Hermes Paket-Schnell-Dienst” (later Hermes Versand Service), which from then on delivered all Otto packages, the 2-man-delivery service also operated under the Hermes brand. Since then, the Sänger Speditionsgesellschaft has been exclusively working for Otto for around 30 years under the name “Hermes Einrichtungs Service”.

2000: Commissioning of the ZUP Mosina

Up to 90.000 m2 of furniture, beds and white goods from Eastern European furniture suppliers are delivered, stored and handled annually at the 500.000 m3 logistics centre near Poznan in the heart of the Polish furniture industry.

2004: Many new clients

On March 15, 2004, HERMES Einrichtungs Service GmbH & Co. KG was founded as a joint venture (55:45) between HERMES Logistik GmbH & Co. KG from Hamburg and Sänger Speditionsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG from Löhne. From this point on, logistics services in the 2-man handling sector were increasingly taken on for various clients outside the Otto Group within the DACH region.

2008: HES delivers to the Netherlands

The international delivery area, which at this time consisted of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, was expanded to include the Netherlands.

2009: Market leader in 2-man handling

In 2009, our shipping volumes reached a level that made us the market leader in 2-man handling.

2016: New logistics center in Löhne

In 2016, one of the largest logistics centers was put into operation in collaboration with Hermes Fulfilment GmbH. Hermes Einrichtungs Service is responsible for the main handling base (HUB), which covers over 16,000 m2 of warehouse space, has over 54,000 European pallet spaces, and 180 hall gates. Over 1,000 employees work here. The administration also moves into a modern, new building in Löhne, which has around 4,400 m2 of office space and is 100% climate-neutral.

2020: New HUB in Ansbach

In 2020, another logistics center with over 600 employees was launched in Ansbach, Bavaria. At this HUB location, we have approximately 16,000 m2 of warehouse space, over 42,000 European pallet spaces, and 170 hall gates.

2021: HES delivers to France

In 2021, France is added as a delivery area. We work closely with Agediss, the French market leader in the delivery of furniture and bulky goods to business and private customers.

2024: We deliver enthusiasm

The most beautiful aspect of our history? Our vision for the future. In 2024, we will consistently showcase our high standards in 2-man-handling with the new slogan “We deliver enthusiasm”.
