HES and Kemena Create Integrated Logistics Solutions for the European Market
Löhne, October 15, 2025 – Hermes Einrichtungs Service (HES) and Kemena GmbH have joined forces: since November 2024, the two logistics companies have been working together in a strategic partnership to offer seamless, efficient, and sustainable supply chain solutions for the European market. The collaboration combines the strengths of both partners—from international procurement to final-mile delivery—and targets retailers, manufacturers, importers, and marketplaces.
The partnership was presented at this year’s HES in-house trade fair during the roundtable discussion “New Paths for Your Product Range.” Industry experts discussed the future of logistics, robotics, and artificial intelligence in the furniture and home goods sector. The discussion highlighted how closely technological innovation, integrated logistics processes, and strong collaboration will work together in the future to make product assortments more efficient and customer-focused.
First Mile Meets Last Mile
This partnership brings together two specialists who benefit from the close physical proximity of their locations in Löhne, enabling short distances and tight integration between first and last mile. Kemena contributes over 100 years of experience in warehousing, contract logistics, and first-mile transport. The company operates four sites with around 190,000 square meters of warehouse space and offers a wide range of services—from container pickup and rail transport to inventory management. A key component is the just-in-time (JIT) assembly principle, where products or components are only manufactured or assembled when a specific customer order is received. This minimizes inventory, shortens lead times, and allows for flexible fulfillment of individual requirements.
HES complements these services with end-customer distribution of large-volume products and operates the largest two-person handling network in Germany. The company is also active with partners in Austria, Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands. With average delivery times of 3.5 days and optional express services, HES ensures precisely managed logistics processes on the last mile.
Connected Processes for Seamless Control
Through a shared IT interface, order data is integrated while status and progress updates flow bidirectionally to retailers, manufacturers, and end customers. This creates a continuous data stream that enables end-to-end tracking from production to delivery.
“Our partnership combines Kemena’s international reach with the service quality and customer proximity of the HES network,” says Heiko Hufenbach, Business Development Manager at HES. “Retailers, manufacturers, importers, and marketplaces all benefit equally—they gain planning reliability, speed, and transparency across the entire supply chain. It’s this combination of global logistics and local excellence that makes the partnership so powerful.”
Dr. Timo Jording, Managing Director of Kemena, adds: “The close integration of our systems creates a new level of control—from procurement to the last mile. This strengthens supply chain resilience and measurably improves the customer experience.”
Sustainability in Focus
The joint approach also contributes to sustainability. Both companies pursue clear sustainability strategies. Kemena covers two-thirds of its electricity needs through photovoltaic systems, uses only electric forklifts, and is increasingly deploying electric trucks—especially for shuttle transport between its own sites and the HES hub.
HES, in parallel, is electrifying the last mile. With over 200 charging points and the use of certified green electricity, 72 of Germany’s 80 largest cities can already be served fully electrically. This equates to potential CO₂ savings of up to 2,830 tons per year. Additionally, both partners operate a joint returns and re-commerce concept.
Growth and Further Digitalization
The partnership between HES and Kemena is designed for the long term and is evolving step by step. Plans include expanding logistics infrastructure, entering new markets, and further developing existing business areas. A key focus is on IT-supported process integration, automation, and further digitalization of data exchange. “With our merger, our two companies are creating a supply chain that transcends traditional boundaries between transport, warehousing, and end-customer logistics, setting new standards for efficiency and sustainability,” says Hufenbach.
At its central location in Löhne, Kemena is currently expanding its warehousing and transshipment capacities to meet the growing demand for integrated logistics solutions. Direct access to the HES hub enables particularly short transport routes and delivery times. Interested companies are invited to learn more about individual usage options or schedule a site visit.
