HES inside – People Who Move Things: Patrick Kubasik in Profile

In our series “HES inside – People Who Move Things,” we introduce colleagues from various divisions and backgrounds. Each brings expertise, dedication, and personality to ensure smooth logistics processes and satisfied customers. This time, we feature Patrick Kubasik, a senior IT trainee. With his experience and passion for technology, he supports our entire team daily and actively drives innovation forward.

From Industrial Mechanic to IT Specialist

Patrick began his career as an industrial mechanic, accumulating more than ten years of experience in that field. Fascinated by computers and IT since childhood, he eventually decided to turn his hobby into a profession. “A former colleague recommended I apply to Hermes Einrichtung Service—best decision ever,” says Patrick. He especially values the respectful environment, freedom for his own ideas, and the support he receives during his training. “Collaboration here is varied and appreciative. I also love the strong customer focus: through direct and indirect interactions, I can meet expectations and contribute to customer satisfaction.”

Responsibility at the IT Service Desk

In his service-desk role, Patrick helps colleagues with all software and hardware questions. His core tasks include:

  • Handling first- and second-level support requests
  • Rolling out and customizing new software
  • Replacing and upgrading hardware

He is currently working on his capstone project: a virtual learning environment for IT trainees. “This platform will replicate real-world scenarios digitally and allow flexible, location-independent learning. I want to make training more efficient and aligned with industry requirements.”

Technology as a Key to the Future

Patrick sees large-item logistics being transformed by digitalization: “The use of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and automated warehousing and transport systems will continue to grow. This lets us plan, monitor, and control logistics processes ever more efficiently.”

E-commerce and last-mile logistics are also gaining importance: “Companies need innovative solutions to make deliveries faster and more customer-friendly.”

His daily work at the service desk benefits from digital tools: “Automated ticketing systems and knowledge bases help us resolve issues faster. Remote work options also give us much greater flexibility.”

Opportunities for Young Talent in Large-Item Logistics

Patrick exemplifies how varied career paths in logistics can be. He encourages young people to stay open to the industry and take an interest in logistics operations and emerging technologies. “Working in large-item logistics builds essential soft skills—teamwork, communication, and problem-solving—that are in demand across many professions. With growing demand for logistics services—especially in e-commerce, furniture, and interiors—there are countless exciting career opportunities.”

From his own journey, he’s learned the importance of clear, transparent communication, that mistakes bring valuable lessons, and that perseverance is key—even in tough situations. “And it always helps to be able to laugh at yourself.”

“Progress and Innovation Arise Through Collaboration”

For Patrick, an active exchange within the team and company benefits everyone, not just young talent. “To meet tomorrow’s challenges, mutual knowledge transfer is crucial. Tenured employees bring deep expertise and decades of experience; when they share that, they create a strong foundation for the whole team.” At the same time, “young professionals offer fresh perspectives and innovative approaches that challenge routines and continuously improve processes.”
